Museum Collection & Storage

Only 10% of the Museum Collection is on display at any one time, while the remainder is kept in our Collection Store.

Walk through the museum exhibition space to the Museum Collection & Storage viewing area to see part of the vast range of items which we care for and use for research.

Temperature, humidity and light are regulated in parts of the storage areas to create the best environment for the collection materials to ensure their ongoing preservation.

Things to see and do:

• See the large collection store and see bells and bicycles, pumps and patterns, staff machines and miniature steam engines.
• Look into the small and medium sized collection store where we keep a range of smaller items plus the photographic and audio visual collection.
• See the workspace where running repairs are made for the trains and carriages on our Model Railway exhibition.
