Queensland Museum is custodian of the state’s natural and cultural heritage, caring for more than a million items and specimens in collections that tell the changing story of Queensland.
We deliver museum services across the state, through a network of public museums:
- Queensland Museum Kurilpa, Brisbane including SparkLab, Sciencentre
- Queensland Museum Rail Workshops, Ipswich
- Queensland Museum Cobb+Co, Toowoomba
- Queensland Museum Tropics, Townsville
- Queensland Museum Collections and Research Centre, Hendra.
The Queensland Philosophical Society founded the original Queensland Museum on 20 January 1862. From that small room in the Old Windmill on Wickham Terrace, Queensland Museum now consists of four public tourist attractions and many outreach services.
Queensland Museum commits to ensuring representation and respectfully showcasing the contributions and stories of Aboriginal Peoples and Torres Strait Islanders through our research, exhibitions and programming.
