The Collections and Research Centre (CRC) is Queensland Museum’s flagship campus for collection storage and research.
Located at 122 Gerler Road, Hendra, the site is home to Queensland Museum collections relating to Biodiversity (spirit collections and large vertebrates), Geosciences, Archaeology, Indigenous Cultures and Social History.
The CRC is also home to the metropolitan hub of Queensland Museum's education loans service (QM Loans), which provides educational kits to numerous schools and community groups across the state.
In 2019, the Queensland Government invested $16.2 million to expand and refurbish the CRC, and major infrastructure renewal has since resulted in the completion of a new, state-of-the art Wet Store Facility in 2021, two new laboratory facilities for Geosciences in 2022, and a renovated main administration and office area, also in 2022. This development will ensure that Queensland Museum remains at the forefront of scientific research, and that the State Collection is maintained to the highest possible standard.
The QM Loans program is open Monday – Friday, and loans kits are accessible to be collected or dropped-off via the QM Loans booking system.
The rest of the CRC is closed to the general public. However, researchers who wish to access collections are encouraged to contact relevant curatorial and collection management staff before planning their visit. Cultures & Histories collections may be viewed by advance appointment by contacting the appropriate staff.
