Museums are places where families can explore and learn together. Families can enjoy a range of exhibitions, events and activities during their visit to Queensland Museum Rail Workshops.
Staff are located throughout Queensland Museum Rail Workshops to assist, offer directions or interpret information. Children’s activities and interactions feature throughout our exhibitions.
Children supervision
Children 15 years and under must be accompanied by a carer or guardian at all times when visiting the museum.
Pram access
The museum is accessible for parents bringing prams or strollers. Exhibition areas in the museum are accessed via gently sloping ramps or are at ground level.
The Trackside Café can be accessed from the rear of the building via a ramp or from the front of the building via a chair lift. Please ask one of our staff to assist you if you require the chair lift.
The Traverser (starting point for Heritage Railway Workshops Tours) is accessible to prams. Queensland Rail staff will assist you onto the Traverser via a ramp.
Family room
There is a Family Room located in the museum with baby change facilities. Our disabled toilets also include a fold-down change table.
Child-friendly eating
The Trackside Café has child-friendly menu options. Highchairs are available upon request. A microwave is available at the Trackside Café for parents to heat bottles.
Interactive play spaces
Nippers Railway: Let off steam in our themed active space designed for children. Role play operating a transport system including a train, boat, signal house, ticket office and more. Enjoy some downtime in with story books and play tables.
Miniature Train: During school holidays, get on board our train for a ride around the Museum grounds. Charge applies per passenger.

When visiting the museum, adults accompanying children are encouraged to scaffold and model learning behaviours such as conversations, observations, comparisons and inquiring to learn together.
