What are Mangroves?
Mangroves are plants that live between the low tide and high tide mark (intertidal zone) of sheltered coastline estuaries. Many different kinds of plants, including trees, shrubs, palms and ferns are called mangroves. Thirty-four species of Mangrove occur along the Queensland coast.
The term 'mangroves' is also used to describe an intertidal forest of plants and the community of animals that live there.
This exhibition allows adults and children of all ages to learn all about these incredibly diverse ecosystems that make up such an important part of the North Queensland landscape.
Mangroves is located on Level 2 in the Discover Tropical Queensland gallery.
