Find yourself At Home in the Tropics and discover the amazing creatures that inhabit rainforests, mangroves and even the backyards of tropical North Queensland.

The Tropics are a special source of delight for anyone with an interest in the landscape, environment, plants or animals.

Exploring this region can provide many opportunities to observe, study or photograph interesting and spectacular subjects. Naturalists can make important new discoveries and add to our understanding of the tropical environments.

Whether living or visiting the Tropics, humans have developed ways of making their lives more comfortable and safe to ensure protection from extreme weather, insects, animals and other natural elements.

Things to see and do:

  • Spy on the typical North Queensland backyard creatures that come to life at night.
  • Have a go on the projector microscope and zoom in on tiny organisms and insects.
  • Marvel at the incredible display of tropical butterflies.
  • Learn about the distinct dry and wet seasons of the Tropics.
  • Understand more about the Dengue Mosquito and other notorious North Queensland creepy crawlies.
  • Discover the creatures that inhabit the rainforests and mangroves.

At Home in the Tropics is located on Level 2 in the Discover Tropical Queensland gallery.
