The Platypus I was Australia's very first mini submarine, designed and built in Sydney in the early 1980's. The Platypus voyages led to pioneering research on coral reefs off the North Queensland cost including groundbreaking surveys of the No. 5 Ribbon Reef and the Myrmidon Reef. It took researchers down to 130m depth, transforming our understanding of the Great Barrier Reef.

Hear firsthand from Dr. Terry Done about what it was like onboard the Platypus during Mission 71 and experience original audio recordings and imagery captured from his pioneering dives.

The talk will go for approximately 30 minutes and there will be time for questions after.
