Patrick Couper is Senior Scientist and Curator, Reptiles and Amphibians at Queensland Museum.
He has an active research interest in the taxonomy, ecology, biogeography and conservation of Queensland’s diverse reptile fauna.
Patrick has described more than 60 new species of reptiles and these descriptions also include nine new genera. A major research focus of Patrick’s is the leaf-tailed geckos that inhabit rainforest and rock habitats in eastern Queensland and New South Wales. He is particularly interested in the role of rocky landscapes (lithorefugia) in allowing rainforest lineages (both vertebrates and invertebrates) to persist in areas where rainforests no longer occur.
Since 1862, we’ve been dedicated to collecting and researching Queensland's unique natural and cultural heritage.
