Dr Mal Bryant is the Collection Manager Marine Biodiversity (Parasitology) at Queensland Museum. His current focus is maintaining the Vernon Database Collecting Units for Worms, International Reference Centre for Avian Haematozoa (IRCAH) and Protozoa (single celled organisms) and manage the associated collections, the majority of which are parasites.
Mal’s research focus is a poorly studied group of parasites, the Nematomorpha (or Gordian worms) of Australia and has continued to have an interest in these fascinating worms.
Other parasite specimens within the State Collection include acanthocephalan spiny-headed worms, trematode and monogenean flatworms, cestodes and nematodes.
Apart from parasites, Mal also manages the collections of echinoderms and several groups of free-living worms, including marine flatworms and bristle worms, as well as earthworms.
