Liz Bissell

Liz Bissell of Queensland Museum

Dr Liz Bissell is the Senior Curator, Queensland Stories, in the Cultures & Histories team at Queensland Museum.

Liz has an academic background in Australian Literature and History and over 20 years’ experience in research with a focus on Queensland identity and culture. Prior to her work with Queensland Museum, Liz spent ten years undertaking detailed genealogical research for the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships including a key role in the delivery of the State Government’s stolen wages Reparations Scheme. She also brings a range of other skills and experiences from her work across the cultural sector, including Research and Project Manager for arts consultancy Positive Solutions, and grant writing and project work with the Australia Council for the Arts, Queensland Writers Centre, Queensland Theatre Company and more.

Liz is committed to ensuring that community access and engagement is central to museum collections with respect to the ways in which objects and stories can provide a sense of identity, encourage diverse communities and reflect contemporary Queensland life.
