Join Rob Shiels, Curator at Queensland Museum Rail Workshops, for a talk on the Sunshine Route – Queensland’s North Coast railway line. 2024 is the 100th anniversary of the 1678km long line which took over 35 years to complete. Built through some of the state’s most challenging landscapes, the Sunshine Route was one of Australia’s most impressive industrial achievements of the twentieth century. Learn about the line’s unique history and how it has been an important part of life in Queensland for the last 100 years.

About the presenter

Rob Shiels is the Curator at Queensland Museum Rail Workshops.

As part of his role, Rob has moved large and unique museum objects including locomotives, buses, cars, wagons and carriages, generators, tanks, rail motors and high voltage electrical infrastructure.

Rob’s areas of research include the use of railways in the World War I, railways in Queensland, railway sporting and social clubs and general Queensland history.
